In his 2007 autobiography John Leguizamo states he and Bob Hoskins hated working on the film and would frequently get drunk to make it through the experience. Both men apparently knew the movie would turn out bad, so they simply tried to make the best of it. He also stated he felt one of the biggest reasons the movie turned out the way it did was because the directors wanted a more “adult” movie while the studio, considering the source material, was looking for a children’s film.
Look, I’m an ostrich!
Baby Boomers entered the workforce during one of the greatest economic miracles in modern history: U.S. real GDP per capita decreased only two years between 1950 and 1970, and the resulting bounty was distributed rather equitably. We, meanwhile, have borne the brunt of the largest economic disaster since the Great Depression and watched middle-class real wages stagnate throughout our lives.
These class differences have predictably resulted in conflict. The older set has taken to newspapers, radio and print books to denounce their underemployed descendants as narcissistic, lazy and clueless: a “Generation Me” uninterested in hard work. We have responded from our own turf, in our own language, with a new Internet meme. Here are seven popular examples of the striking ways that our parents, or grandparents for some, just don’t get what we go through.
Nobody cares about your other video website.
I love it when people post a video on YouTube that basically says, “Hey, go watch my awesome new video! It’s on this other site, that’s not YouTube!” …. Umm, great. Does that other site have an app that I can use to watch it? Maybe on Xbox 360? No? How about PS3? No? Damn. How about Wii U? Still no? Shit. How about Roku? Android? iOS? XBMC? 3DS? Wii? Well, shit. I GUESS I’M NOT WATCHING YOUR FUCKING VIDEO, THEN. You know what all those devices I listed have in common? I CAN WATCH YOUTUBE ON THEM, AND NOT WHATEVER THIRD-RATE ALTERNATIVE YOU’RE USING. If you can upload a video to YouTube telling me to go somewhere else to watch your video, you’re obviously capable of putting videos on YouTube. So fucking do it.
